Forex Lot Size Calculator

Calculate accurate forex lot sizes for prop firm challenges. Protect your daily drawdown with strict risk percentage and stop-loss pip calculations.

How the Forex Lot Size Calculator Works

To calculate your forex lot size, multiply your account balance by your risk percentage to determine your cash risk amount. Then divide that cash risk by your stop loss in pips multiplied by your pip value per lot. This keeps every position within your prop firm drawdown rules.

Calculation Formula
Lot Size = Risk Amount ÷ (Stop Loss × Pip Value)

For most major pairs like EUR/USD, 1 standard lot = $10 per pip.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many lots should I trade on a $100k prop firm account?

On a $100,000 account risking 1% ($1,000) with a 20-pip stop loss on EUR/USD ($10 per pip per standard lot), your exact lot size is 5.00 standard lots. If your stop loss is wider, your lot size decreases proportionally.

What risk percentage do prop firms allow per trade?

Most prop firms do not mandate a single-trade risk percentage, but their daily loss limits (usually 4% to 5%) and max drawdowns (8% to 10%) mean risking 0.5% to 1.0% per trade is optimal to avoid rapid account breach.

What is the difference between standard, mini, and micro lots?

One standard lot equals 100,000 currency units (roughly $10/pip on EUR/USD). A mini lot is 0.10 lots (10,000 units, $1/pip), and a micro lot is 0.01 lots (1,000 units, $0.10/pip).
